Jump

It is difficult to explain what Jump is in merely few words because it is such a unique thing. Imagine Korean Jackie Chan‘s flying up walls "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon"-style, backed by "Benny Hill"-like short sketches and "Mr. Bean"-like minimalistic dialogues, then you have a thing that somewhat resembles this so-called "comic martial arts performance".

Jump is a huge success internationally. In 2005, the show toured many countries around the world including UK. Back by popular demand, the cast once again performs at the Peacock Theatre situated in Holborn.

Set in an average Korean home, Jump revolves around a typical, but dramatically agile family of six. Each member of the family is a martial arts expert, possessing championship level Taekwondo and gymnastic skills. The plot thickens when two burglars break into their family home in the middle of the night. You can view a movie trailer of the show here.

Despite the simplicity of the storyline, the show was the funniest thing I have ever witnessed. Jokes were setup as fast as the cast could punch and kick. The audience didn’t have one second to rest from all the actions. I went to the show without any expectation and I was happy that my head was still intact after all those heavy laughters.

The concept of the show was first conceived 8 years ago. At that time, the show was called Crazy Family. It was later renamed Hi Jump, and now shortened to the name Jump.

Whether you are looking for an afternoon of unstoppable laughter, a cultural shock for the whole family, or simply a chance to see Korean men spread their thighs, there are myriads of reasons to see this authentic production from Korea.

The show is near the end of their UK tour for this year. They will next perform in Tokyo’s Apple Theatre from 18th of May to 24th of June, then in Osaka’s WelCity Art Hall from 28th of June to 6th of July.
