Maison Berthillon

For a French ice cream parlour to be so well-known that it is listed in the Wikipedia, you know it’s got to be good !

I went to Maison Berthillon with someone magical yesterday and tried out their ice-creams and sorbets. Although Maison Berthillon has branches all over Paris including the Champs-Elysees, the chain’s flagship branch is situated on the island in Seine river, lle Saint-Louis. I was told that just about every ice-cream aficionado in Paris knows this place.

Look at the number of people ordering take-away ice creams. There were actually more before.

We had wild strawberry ice cream for EUR$8.5 (left) and blood orange, peach, mango, and ginger bread sorbet EUR$9.5 (right).

The ice creams can be divided into glaces (dairy ice-creams) and sorbets (without dairy). The texture of their ice-creams was just so silky smooth. The flavours were just so natural and intense. It’s like every spoon of fruit sorbet ripens right inside your mouth. The incompressible sorbet slowly melts by the warmth of your tongue. I am a fan of Haagen Dazs ice-cream, but I tell you this is a hundred times better. From my point of view, the blood orange sorbet was the best. Needless to say, the others were stunning too.

The scoops maybe small and the price maybe high, but I guarantee you that you will never doubt its value for one second after that first taste.
